What does the transmission oil cooler do?
The transmission oil cooler is a heat exchanger in the automatic gearbox cooling circuit. Fluid is routed out of the gearbox, through the cooler core where heat is rejected to the airflow, and back to the transmission, holding fluid temperature in range to protect the 8-speed automatic.
Where is the transmission oil cooler located?
The transmission oil cooler mounts in the front cooling pack alongside the radiator and condenser, in the airflow behind the front grille. It connects to the gearbox through the cooler feed and return lines.
What are the signs the oil cooler has failed?
Leaking transmission fluid at the front of the vehicle or a coolant and fluid mix are the usual signs the cooler has failed. Overheating gearbox fluid can bring on harsh or delayed shifts, so a leaking or blocked cooler is renewed rather than patched.
Which vehicles use this transmission oil cooler?
