What is the 2.25L petrol piston ring set for?
This piston ring set seals the combustion chamber and controls oil on the cylinder wall of the 2.25-litre 4-cylinder petrol engine used in Land Rover Series 2 and 3 and Defender. It covers a single piston and conducts heat from the piston into the bore.
What does the +0.030" oversize mean?
The +0.030" (0.76mm) oversize means the rings are ground 0.030 inch larger than standard for a cylinder bored 0.030" oversize. Fit this set only on a block machined to that size. Standard or differently rebored bores need a different oversize.
How many sets do I need for a 4-cylinder rebuild?
Typically four sets are needed, one per piston, because the 2.25-litre petrol engine runs four cylinders. Every set should share the same +0.030" oversize so all four bores match the machining done to your block.
How do I know if my pistons need new rings?
Failing rings usually cause blue smoke, oil burning and weak compression on the 2.25-litre petrol engine. New rings go in during a rebore or rebuild, and this +0.030" set suits a block already machined to that oversize.
