What does the RTC6806 petrol lift pump do?
The RTC6806 petrol lift pump draws fuel from the tank and feeds it to the carburettor on the 2.25 petrol engine fitted to Land Rover Series 2, 2A and 3. It's a mechanical pump driven off the engine and mounted on the side of the block, keeping the carburettor supplied at the right pressure.
Where is the lift pump mounted on a Series Land Rover?
The lift pump mounts on the side of the 2.25 petrol engine block, driven by an eccentric on the camshaft. It sits in the fuel line between the tank and the carburettor. On Series 2, 2A and 3 petrol models it's a mechanical pump, not electric.
What are the signs a petrol lift pump is failing?
A failing lift pump typically shows as fuel starvation, hard starting, or the engine cutting out under load. A ruptured diaphragm can leak fuel or let it into the oil. On the 2.25 petrol Series engine, weak delivery to the carburettor is the usual symptom.
