What is Diesel Exhaust Fluid (AdBlue) used for?
Diesel Exhaust Fluid (AdBlue) is a consumable additive for diesel Land Rovers with a selective catalytic reduction (SCR) system. It's metered from a dedicated tank into the exhaust, where it converts nitrogen oxides into nitrogen and water to lower tailpipe emissions.
Which vehicles need this fluid?
It fits only diesel Land Rovers built with a Diesel Exhaust Fluid tank, including the New Defender (2020+), Discovery 5, Discovery Sport, Range Rover L405 and L460, Range Rover Sport L494 and L461, Evoque and Velar. Petrol models and diesels without an SCR tank don't use it.
How should AdBlue be stored and refilled?
AdBlue isn't classed as dangerous goods for transport, but store it in a cool, dry place out of direct sunlight to preserve it. It's topped up into the vehicle's dedicated DEF tank, which is separate from the diesel fuel filler.
