What is the panhard rod and what does it do?
The panhard rod ties the front axle to the chassis laterally, resisting sideways axle movement while the radius arms control fore-and-aft location. Fitted to the Land Rover Defender and Discovery 1, it mounts to a bracket on the axle casing and a chassis bracket.
Which models and VIN range does it fit?
It fits the Land Rover Defender 1986-2006 (all engines, up to VIN 2A626645) and Discovery 1 1989-1998. Confirm your VIN against the 2A626645 break before ordering, as later Defenders use a different rod.
What are the signs of a worn panhard rod?
Worn bushes at either eye typically show up as steering wander and imprecise turn-in on the Defender and Discovery 1. The axle is free to move laterally under load once the bushes perish.
