Frequently asked questions

What is this shock absorber and what does it do?
This is a gas-charged front shock absorber (Bilstein) that fits between the front axle and the chassis. It damps the motion of the road spring, controlling body and wheel oscillation so the tyre stays in contact with the road. Fits the Defender, Discovery 1 and Range Rover Classic.
Is one enough or do I need a pair?
This damper is sold individually. Most jobs replace the front dampers in pairs so damping stays even side to side, so order two if you're refreshing the front axle.
What are the signs a shock absorber needs replacing?
A worn damper typically shows as a floaty or bouncy ride, poor control over bumps, nose dive under braking, or the tyre skipping on rough surfaces. Replacing in pairs keeps the handling balanced.
