Frequently asked questions

What does the Ignition & Starter Switch do?
The Ignition & Starter Switch is the steering column switch that controls ignition and engages the starter on the Land Rover Defender (1986-2006) with the 2.5 four-cylinder diesel. It's a Lucas OEM switch and is also listed for the Series 2 and 3.
Which Defender does this ignition switch fit?
This ignition and starter switch fits the Land Rover Defender (1986-2006) with the 2.5 naturally aspirated or turbo diesel, up to VIN LA932971. Later vehicles use a revised switch, so check your VIN. It's the electrical switch portion mounted on the steering column.
Where is the ignition switch located?
The ignition switch mounts on the steering column behind the lock barrel on the Defender. It's the electrical switch the key barrel operates, so it can be replaced separately if the barrel and lock are still good. Access typically means removing the column shroud.
