Frequently asked questions

What is the PRC5565 speedometer cable and what does it do?
The PRC5565 is the gearbox-end section of the speedometer cable for the left-hand-drive Range Rover Classic. The LHD speedo cable is a two-piece design, and this lower piece connects the speedometer drive gear on the gearbox output to the upper cable section, which runs on to the instrument cluster.
Is this the full speedometer cable or just one section?
The PRC5565 is only the gearbox-end (lower) section of the two-piece LHD speedometer cable. It connects to a separate upper section that continues to the speedometer head. If your speedo has failed, check which section is at fault, as the upper piece is a different part. PRC4483 is a listed alternative.
Why does the speedometer cable fail on a Range Rover Classic?
Speedometer cables typically fail when the inner cable frays or snaps, or the outer sheath kinks, causing a jumpy, noisy or dead speedometer needle. On the Range Rover Classic the gearbox-end section can also seize at the drive gear. A failed cable usually needs replacing rather than repairing.
