What is the intercooler used for?
The intercooler, or charge air cooler, sits between the turbocharger compressor outlet and the intake manifold. It passes compressed intake air through a finned core cooled by ambient airflow, restoring air density before it reaches the engine.
Where is the intercooler located?
The intercooler is mounted at the front of the vehicle within the cooling pack airflow, in the turbocharger induction circuit of the 2.0L Ingenium diesel.
What are the signs of a failed intercooler?
A leaking intercooler shows as reduced boost pressure, loss of power under load, and boost-related fault codes. Common causes are impact damage, a split end tank, a leaking core seam, or oil carry-over after turbocharger seal wear.
