Frequently asked questions

What is the RTC478310 main bearing kit for?
It's a crankshaft main bearing set machined 0.010 inch oversize, for 2.5 litre diesel engines including 200Tdi and 300Tdi. Made by King. Fits Defender, Discovery 1, and Range Rover Classic with these diesel engines.
Does this kit cover the whole crankshaft?
Yes, RTC478310 is a complete main bearing set for one engine, covering all main bearing journals on the crankshaft. You only need one kit per engine rebuild.
Why is this bearing kit 0.010 inch oversize?
The 0.010 inch oversize spec is for engines where the crankcase main bearing housings have been line-bored to remove wear, common on a rebuild. Standard-size bearings won't give correct clearance in a line-bored block.
Why do main bearings need replacing?
Main bearings typically wear from normal running and from oil contamination or low oil pressure, causing knocking noises and low oil pressure readings. They're a standard replacement item during any engine rebuild.
