Frequently asked questions

What is a DEF injector and what does this refit kit do?
The DEF injector doses AdBlue into the exhaust ahead of the SCR catalyst, where it converts nitrogen oxides into nitrogen and water. This refit kit supplies the parts needed to remount the injector when it's been removed or replaced, so the joint seals properly and the injector sits square in the exhaust.
Which vehicles does this DEF injector kit cover?
Diesel models only, across the Discovery 5, Discovery Sport, Defender 2020 onward, Range Rover L405 and L460, Range Rover Sport L494 and L461, Range Rover Evoque L551 and Range Rover Velar L560. SAP lists engines including the 2.0 AJ200, 2.0 AJ20D4, 3.0 V6, 3.0 AJ20D6 and 4.4 V8 diesel.
Why do you need a refit kit when the injector comes out?
Because the DEF injector seals against a hot exhaust joint, the sealing parts are typically single use and shouldn't go back in once disturbed. Refitting on old seals risks an AdBlue leak, crystallisation around the joint and a repeat emissions fault. Fitting the kit alongside the injector avoids going back in twice.
What are the signs of a DEF injector problem?
An AdBlue or emissions warning, a countdown to no restart, or white crystal deposits around the injector on the exhaust are the usual signs. Stored SCR or DEF dosing faults point the same way. These systems run across the diesel Discovery 5, Defender L663 and Range Rover L405 ranges covered here.
Is this a DIY job?
It's approachable if you can reach the injector, but the exhaust needs to be cool, AdBlue is corrosive to skin and paint, and the system usually needs a diagnostic reset afterwards on models like the Discovery 5 and Defender L663. Plenty of owners fit the kit themselves and have the fault cleared separately.
