Where does the DEF injector sit on the vehicle?
The DEF injector mounts into the exhaust upstream of the SCR catalyst and sprays AdBlue into the gas stream. It's part of the exhaust fluid injection and emission control system. This kit supplies the parts used to remount the injector to that joint once it's been taken out.
Does this fit petrol models?
No, it's diesel only. SAP lists it for diesel engines including the 2.0 AJ200 and AJ20D4, the 3.0 V6 and AJ20D6, and the 4.4 V8 diesel. Petrol vehicles don't run an AdBlue SCR system, so there's no DEF injector to refit.
Which Land Rover ranges is this listed against?
SAP lists it for the Discovery 5 L462, Discovery Sport L550, Defender L663 2020 onward, Range Rover L405 and L460, Range Rover Sport L494 and L461, Range Rover Evoque L551 and Range Rover Velar L560, all in diesel form. It's a shared part across the AJ200 and AJ20D engine families.
Should the injector be refitted on its original seals?
No. The sealing parts at the injector joint are typically single use, so they're renewed whenever the injector is disturbed. Reusing them risks AdBlue leaking at a hot exhaust joint, crystal build up and a repeat emissions fault. That's why the refit kit exists as its own part number.
What happens if a DEF injector fault is ignored?
On these diesel models the system typically counts down to a no restart condition once an AdBlue or SCR fault is stored, so the vehicle eventually won't start. Leaking AdBlue also crystallises and corrodes what it lands on. Sealing the joint properly at the time of the repair avoids both.
