What is the GA1224 differential locker kit used for?

GA1224 is an air-operated differential locker that replaces the standard differential centre in a 24-spline axle, fitted to the Land Rover Defender, Discovery 1, Discovery 2, Range Rover Classic and Range Rover P38. When engaged, it locks both half shafts together so the wheels on that axle turn at the same speed.

What's involved in fitting the GA1224 differential locker?

Fitting GA1224 requires the differential housing to be drilled and tapped 1/4 inch BSP for the air feed fitting, though the axle case itself needs no modification. An on-board air supply is required to operate the locker and isn't included in the kit.

How does the GA1224 locker engage the differential?

The locking ring engages the side gear by 6mm for positive engagement, and the actuator uses a non-rotating annular piston rather than a rotating seal, which reduces the air leakage and oil carry-over that rotating-seal lockers are prone to.
