What does the FSE500031 bonnet cable (1st half) do?
The FSE500031 is the first half of the two-part bonnet release cable on the Land Rover Discovery 3 and Range Rover Sport L320. It runs from the interior release handle in the driver's footwell, through the bulkhead, to an intermediate junction where it connects to the second cable that operates the bonnet latch.
Is the 1st half cable all I need to fix my bonnet release?
Not always. The Discovery 3 and Range Rover Sport L320 bonnet release uses two cable sections, and the FSE500031 is the first half only, from the handle to the mid-point junction. If the latch end is at fault you'll need the second half instead. Identify which section has failed before ordering.
Why does the bonnet release cable fail on these models?
Bonnet release cables on the Discovery 3 and Range Rover Sport L320 typically fail when the inner cable stretches, frays or seizes, or a fitting detaches, leaving a slack handle that won't release the bonnet. Replacing the failed FSE500031 first-half section restores a firm pull from the footwell handle.
