Frequently asked questions

What does this exhaust component do?
It's a section of the vehicle's exhaust system, made by Bosal, that carries exhaust gases away from the engine and out through the rest of the exhaust line. Exhaust sections are typically joined by clamps or flanges to the pipework either side.
Why would this exhaust part need replacing?
Exhaust sections typically corrode from the inside out due to condensation in the gas stream, eventually causing rust perforation, a blowing noise at the joint, or a failed weld seam. Visible rust flaking or a change in exhaust note are common signs it needs replacing.
Is fitting a replacement exhaust section a DIY job?
Fitting typically involves separating the joints either side of the section, usually clamps or flange bolts, then refitting on the exhaust's rubber mounts. It's manageable with basic exhaust tools for most DIY mechanics, though penetrating oil is often needed to free corroded fasteners.
