Frequently asked questions

What is the Bearing Housing and what does it do?
This Bearing Housing locates and retains the rear mainshaft bearing in the LT76 four-speed gearbox. It holds the bearing concentric so the rear of the gearbox mainshaft runs true within the casing. It's an internal component, usually renewed during a gearbox rebuild.
Which Land Rovers use this gearbox bearing housing?
This bearing housing fits the LT76 four-speed gearbox used in Land Rover Series 1, 2, 2A and 3. Fitment data on this part is limited, so check it against your gearbox type before ordering, as Series gearboxes changed over the production run.
When is the bearing housing usually replaced?
The bearing housing is typically renewed during a gearbox rebuild, when the rear mainshaft bearing is changed. If the bore is worn or the bearing has spun in it, the housing can't hold the bearing true, so it's replaced while the LT76 gearbox is stripped down.
