Frequently asked questions

What is a spire nut used for?
A spire nut is a spring-steel push-on clip that provides a threaded anchor in thin sheet metal. You push it over a hole in the panel and drive a self-tapping screw into it, and its arched spring form grips the thread to resist vibration and pull-out.
How many spire nuts do I need for a repair?
Spire nuts are typically sold individually. A repair usually needs one nut per screw fixing on the Land Rover Defender seat box or body panels, so count the fixing points and order to match. They're commonly replaced whenever removed, since the spring form can distort.
Where is the spire nut used on the vehicle?
The spire nut secures the seat box lid and body panels on the Land Rover Defender, where a fixed nut can't be reached behind the panel. It gives a self-tapping screw something to bite into on thin steel where a captive nut isn't practical.
