What is this Dowel used for?

This Dowel locates and aligns the front cover to the cylinder block on the Rover V8 engine. It registers the cover to the block so it seats squarely before the bolts go in. It fits the V8 in the Defender, Discovery 1 and 2, Range Rover Classic and P38.

How many dowels are needed?

Dowels are typically used in pairs to locate the front cover, so it's common to need two. Check your block and cover for the number of dowel holes before ordering, and renew any that are worn or a loose fit.

Why does the dowel matter?

These dowels sit between the front cover and the cylinder block. Getting the cover correctly located matters for the crankshaft oil seal to run true, so worn or missing dowels can let the cover sit off-centre. Fit them before torquing the cover down.
