Frequently asked questions

What does the RH exhaust manifold gasket do?
This exhaust manifold gasket seals the right-hand cylinder bank exhaust manifold to the cylinder head, containing exhaust gas at the port faces. It fits the 3.5 and 4.2 litre V8 (AJ33/AJ40) in naturally aspirated and supercharged Jaguar S-Type, XF, XJ and XK models.
Is this the left or right-hand gasket?
This is the right-hand bank gasket. The AJV8 uses a separate gasket for each cylinder bank, so confirm you need the RH side, and it is common to renew both the left and right gaskets together when either manifold has been off.
When should the exhaust manifold gasket be replaced?
Replace the exhaust manifold gasket when it blows, which typically gives a ticking or blowing noise from the engine bay that is loudest when cold. On the Jaguar V8 the gasket is renewed whenever the manifold is removed, as the old gasket will not reseal reliably once disturbed.
