The heavy-duty rear half shaft kit replaces the standard rear axle shafts with a stronger left- and right-hand pair. It suits Defenders running aggressive tyres, more engine power or a diff lock, where standard shafts are more likely to fail under shock loading.
What makes these half shafts stronger than standard?
These Britpart XS shafts are machined from SAE4340 nickel-chromoly-molybdenum steel alloy and given a three-stage heat treatment, so they resist shock loading better than standard shafts. That's why they're chosen for hard off-road use, added power or diff-lock-equipped rear axles.
Which rear axle do these half shafts fit?
These shafts fit rear axles with the 24-spline Rover differential, not the Salisbury axle. They suit Defender 90 (2004-2016) and Defender 110/130 (2002-2016). Confirm your rear diff is the Rover type with 24-spline shafts before ordering.
Can these half shafts fit an earlier Defender?
They can fit 1994-2004 Defenders if the outer drive flanges are changed to the later type. On these earlier vehicles the standard flanges differ, so plan for that change. Otherwise they're a direct fit to the 24-spline Rover diff on 2002-2016 models.
