Frequently asked questions

What is the A/C Compressor Drive Belt for the 6-cylinder used for?
The A/C compressor drive belt transfers drive from the crankshaft pulley to the air conditioning compressor on the Jaguar 6-cylinder engine, turning the compressor whenever the system is engaged. Fitted to the XJ40 range (2.9 to 4.0 litre) and the XJS 3.6 and 4.0.
When should the A/C compressor belt be replaced?
Replace the A/C compressor belt when it's glazed, cracked or worn, since a slipping belt stops the compressor driving and the air conditioning blows warm. On these XJ40 and XJS cars the belt can squeal when the A/C clutch engages. Check tension on refitting.
How is the A/C belt different from the alternator belt?
The A/C compressor belt drives only the air conditioning compressor, while the alternator belt drives the alternator, so they're separate belts on these 6-cylinder Jaguars. They differ in length and routing. Match the belt to the accessory you're replacing, and check both while the front of the engine is accessible.
