Frequently asked questions

What does the PAS pulley (ERR2985) do?
The PAS pulley is the drive pulley for the power steering pump on the Range Rover Classic V8 EFI petrol. The engine's auxiliary drive belt turns this pulley, which spins the pump input shaft so the pump can generate the hydraulic pressure that powers the steering. It suits the 1992-1994 Classic.
Where is the PAS pulley mounted?
The PAS pulley mounts on the power steering pump input shaft on the Range Rover Classic V8 EFI petrol engine. It's driven by the auxiliary drive belt at the front of the engine and forms part of the belt-driven accessory layout alongside the alternator and water pump.
What are the signs the PAS pulley needs replacing?
A failing PAS pulley on the Range Rover Classic typically shows as belt slip, squealing or knocking noise, or loss of steering assistance. A cracked or seized pulley can also throw or shred the auxiliary belt. Inspect it for cracks, wobble and play whenever the belt is off.
