Frequently asked questions

What is the front exhaust downpipe and what does it do?
The front exhaust downpipe is the leading section of the exhaust, carrying gas from the turbocharger outlet back to the intermediate pipe on the 200TDi and 300TDi Defender. This is the non-catalyst version, with no catalytic converter in the downpipe.
What's the difference between the non-cat and catalyst downpipe?
The difference is the catalytic converter: this non-cat version has none, giving a plain pipe from the turbo to the mid-section. Choose it for a Defender not running a downpipe catalytic converter, and check local emissions rules before fitting.
Why is this downpipe made from stainless steel?
It's made from stainless steel and mandrel-bent to hold a consistent bore through the bends, so it resists the corrosion that rots mild-steel downpipes. The downpipe runs hot straight off the turbo, which is why the original often fails first.
How do I confirm this fits my Defender?
It fits the Land Rover Defender (1986-2006) with the 200TDi or 300TDi diesel engine in the non-catalyst configuration. Confirm your current exhaust is the non-cat layout before ordering so the downpipe matches the rest of the system.
