Frequently asked questions

What is the Alternator Bracket and what does it do?
The Alternator Bracket mounts the alternator to the engine, holding it in the accessory drive so the belt runs in line with the crankshaft pulley. It's designed for the 3.5L V8 petrol engine, both twin-carburettor and EFI, fitted to the Defender, Discovery 1 and Range Rover Classic.
Which V8 Land Rovers does this bracket fit?
This bracket fits the 3.5L V8 petrol Defender (1987-2006, twin-carb), Discovery 1 (1989-1998, twin-carb and EFI) and Range Rover Classic (1986-1991, twin-carb and EFI). Check your VIN against the ranges, as Discovery 1 fitment runs to VIN WA799999 and Range Rover Classic to VIN HA610293.
Is fitting the alternator bracket a DIY job?
Fitting the Alternator Bracket is a moderate DIY job on the 3.5L V8, bolting to the engine to carry the alternator and set the belt-tension geometry. You'll typically need to slacken the drive belt and support the alternator. Correct belt alignment matters once it's refitted.
