Vliegwiel - 5 lagers is de roterende massa die aan de achterste flens van de krukas is gemonteerd in de 5-hoofdlagervariant van de 2.25L en 2.5L 4-cilinder dieselmotor.

Het vliegwiel slaat rotatie-energie op om vermogenspulsen tussen verbrandingsslagen te egaliseren en zorgt voor het wrijvingsvlak waartegen de koppelingsplaat ingrijpt. Het draagt ook de startkrans voor de startmotor. Dit onderdeel is specifiek voor de 5-lagermotor en is niet uitwisselbaar met vliegwielen van de eerdere 3-lagerversie van dezelfde motorfamilie. Vervanging is vereist wanneer het koppelingsvlak is ingelopen of warmtescheuren vertoont die de servicelimiet overschrijden, of wanneer schade aan de startkrans een betrouwbare startmotorinschakeling verhindert.

The ETC5780 flywheel mounts to the rear flange of the crankshaft on the 5-bearing 2.25L and 2.5L 4-cylinder diesel. It stores rotational energy to smooth the engine's power pulses, provides the friction face for the clutch driven plate, and carries the ring gear for the starter motor.
What's the difference between the 5-bearing and 3-bearing flywheel?
The ETC5780 is specific to the 5-main-bearing engine and isn't interchangeable with the flywheel from the earlier 3-bearing version of the same engine family. Fitting the wrong one causes mounting and balance problems, so confirm whether your engine is the 3 or 5-bearing type before ordering.
When should the flywheel be replaced?
