Frequently asked questions

What is the FRC4840 swivel pin housing and what does it do?
The FRC4840 swivel pin housing is the front axle steering swivel for the Land Rover Defender, right-hand side, left-hand drive. It pivots on the swivel ball through the upper and lower swivel pins to give the front hub its steering articulation, and carries the stub axle while the half shaft passes through it.
Which Defender does this housing fit and which side is it for?
This housing fits the front axle of the Land Rover Defender, right-hand side, on left-hand-drive vehicles up to VIN KA930455. It bolts to the swivel ball assembly and carries the stub axle on its outer face. Later Defenders use a different setup, so confirm your VIN before ordering.
Why does a swivel pin housing need replacing?
A swivel pin housing typically needs replacing when the stub axle face or swivel bearing surfaces wear, or when corrosion damages the housing. Worn swivel components usually cause steering play and front-end knocking. On these Defenders the housing works with the swivel ball, which is often renewed at the same time.
