What does the thermostat housing do?
The thermostat housing is the coolant outlet housing in the cooling circuit of the 2.2L Td4 diesel engine. It carries coolant from the engine out to the radiator and heater circuit, and the thermostat inside it regulates that flow to bring the engine to temperature and hold it there. This is the genuine Land Rover housing.
What are the signs of a failing thermostat housing?
A failing thermostat housing typically cracks or leaks at the seams, or the thermostat sticks, causing coolant loss, overheating, or slow warm-up. On the 2.2L Td4 the housing is a known leak point with age and heat. It's usually supplied with the thermostat built in.
