Frequently asked questions

What does the rear wiper motor do?
The rear wiper motor drives the rear wiper arm and blade across the tailgate screen on the Discovery 4 (2010-2016), clearing rain and road spray for rearward visibility. It contains the drive gearing and the park mechanism that returns the blade to its rest position when switched off.
Where is the rear wiper motor mounted?
The rear wiper motor mounts at the rear of the Discovery 4, behind the tailgate trim, driving the wiper spindle that passes through to the rear screen. It's part of the tailgate wash/wipe system, separate from the front wiper linkage.
What are the signs the rear wiper motor has failed?
A failed rear wiper motor won't move the blade at all, parks it in the wrong position, or runs intermittently. These point to worn gearing or the park mechanism inside the motor. The unit is replaced complete, as the internal parts aren't serviced separately.
