What is this crankshaft main bearing set and what does it do?
It's a crankshaft main bearing set for the 2.5L and 3.0L Jaguar AJ-V6 petrol engine. The shells carry the crankshaft in the block's main housings, giving a soft running surface and holding the oil film under load. Renewed whenever the crankshaft is removed. Fits Jaguar S-Type, XJ and X-Type.
What does 0.75mm undersize mean?
The 0.75mm undersize grade carries a thicker bearing wall for main journals reground by 0.75mm. Confirm your journals have been machined to that undersize before ordering. Standard and 0.50mm undersize sets are listed separately to suit other journal dimensions on the AJ-V6.
How are the main bearings fitted?
Fit the main bearing shells with the shell backs and housings clean and dry, and lubricate the running faces before the crankshaft goes in. Check running clearance against the AJ-V6 specification during reassembly. Getting the grade right matters for correct oil-film clearance.
