What does the MND2140GD-B4 front shock absorber do?
The MND2140GD-B4 is a front adaptive damper for the Jaguar XJ (X308) with the Sports suspension calibration. It controls how fast the front spring compresses and rebounds, keeping the tyre loaded and restraining body movement under cornering, braking and acceleration. It's a Bilstein unit.
Is this the adaptive Sports damper, and can it be mixed with the standard one?
This is the adaptive control damper with the firmer Sports calibration. It carries a solenoid valve the suspension module switches between settings, so it's electrically connected and not interchangeable with the passive damper. Don't mix Sports and standard dampers across an axle.
Should front shock absorbers be replaced in pairs?
Replace front dampers as an axle pair so damping is matched side to side. On the Jaguar XJ (X308) these wear progressively rather than failing outright. Fluid leaking down the body, a knock from the upper mount, or gradual loss of body control are the usual signs.
