The NTC5060 is the rear tailpipe silencer for the Land Rover Discovery 1 (1989-1998) with the 3.5L V8 twin carburettor petrol engine only. It's the final box in the exhaust, reducing noise before the gases exit. Land Rover reference STC1428.
Where does the tailpipe silencer fit?
The tailpipe silencer mounts at the rear of the exhaust on the Discovery 1, downstream of the centre section, and carries the tailpipe out past the back of the vehicle. It's the last box in the 3.5 V8 exhaust. Reference STC1428, now superseded by STC1428LR.
How do I know the tailpipe silencer needs replacing?
Tailpipe silencers fail from rust perforation and broken internal baffles, which typically cause a louder exhaust, rattling, and blowing at the joints. On the Discovery 1 V8 the rear box corrodes with age and short journeys. Visible holes or a hanging box mean it's due.
