Temperatuurschakelaar is een thermisch geactiveerde elektrische schakelaar die in het koelcircuit van de motor wordt geschroefd en reageert op de koelvloeistoftemperatuur.

Wanneer de koelvloeistof zijn ingestelde drempel bereikt, verandert de schakelaar van status om zijn elektrische circuit te sluiten of te openen, waardoor het bijbehorende systeem wordt gesignaleerd. Het dicht af tegen de koelvloeistofdoorgang op een schroefdraadbehuizing en is bedraad in de elektrische kabelboom van de motor.
