Frequently asked questions

What does this track rod do?
This track rod is part of the steering linkage, connecting the steering rack to the hub carrier to pass steering input to the roadwheel. It's the left-hand side rod for power-assisted racks on the Land Rover Freelander 1 (1996-2006) and threads to the track rod end.
What's the difference between the LH and RH track rod?
The left-hand track rod fits the left-hand side of the Freelander 1 steering rack, while the right-hand side uses a separate rod, QFK000070. They're handed parts, so order the side you need. Replacing both means one of each.
How do I know if the track rod needs replacing?
Track rods usually need replacing if the rod is bent from a kerb or pothole impact, or if the threads are damaged. A bent rod upsets front wheel alignment and can make the steering feel off-centre. Check the track rod end joints at the same time.
Will fitting this track rod affect the wheel alignment?
Yes, fitting this track rod affects front toe and needs a wheel alignment afterwards, because it threads to the track rod end. Note the old thread position before removal, then have the toe set on a gauge once the new rod is fitted.
