What is the carburettor O-ring used for on a Defender?
The carburettor O-ring seals a joint within the carburettor on the Defender 2.5L 4-cylinder petrol engine. It gives a fuel-tight seal at the carburettor interface, stopping fuel weeping from the sealed face.
Does this O-ring fit any Defender petrol engine?
This O-ring fits the Defender 2.5L 4-cylinder petrol engine fitted with a carburettor only. It doesn't apply to fuel-injected petrol or diesel Defenders. If your engine runs injection rather than a carb, this isn't the right seal.
Should the carburettor O-ring be reused or replaced?
Replace the carburettor O-ring rather than reusing it. Rubber seals harden and take a set with age and fuel exposure, so a used O-ring often won't reseal cleanly. Fitting a fresh one whenever the carburettor is opened up typically prevents a fuel leak.
