Frequently asked questions

What is the Overdrive Mainshaft Rear Collar used for?
The Overdrive Mainshaft Rear Collar fits the Fairey-type overdrive unit on the Land Rover Series 2 and 3. It seats at the rear of the gearbox mainshaft, where the overdrive bolts onto the back of the transfer box, locating against the mainshaft.
Which overdrive does this collar fit?
This collar fits the Fairey-type overdrive assembly used on the Land Rover Series 2 and 3. Fitment data on this part is limited, so confirm it against your existing overdrive unit before ordering.
Is the collar usually replaced during an overdrive rebuild?
The collar is typically inspected and replaced as needed during an overdrive rebuild, since it works alongside the coupling sleeve and its retaining hardware. Worn locating faces can let the mainshaft components move, so check it whenever the overdrive is stripped.
