What is the TF142 commercial front shock absorber for?
The TF142 is an uprated heavy-duty front shock absorber built for commercial and heavily laden Land Rovers. It damps spring oscillation and controls front wheel movement between the front axle housing and the chassis on the Defender, Discovery 1 and Range Rover Classic. It's set for standard travel and standard ride height with extra damping control.
What's the difference between the standard and commercial front shock?
The TF142 front shock is the heavy-duty commercial version, valved for firmer damping than a standard front damper. It suits Land Rovers that carry heavy loads, tow or run extra weight, where a standard shock would feel underdamped. For a normally laden Defender or Discovery 1, the standard-travel front damper is usually enough.
What are the signs a commercial front shock has worn out?
A worn TF142 front shock typically shows as a bouncy or wallowing ride under load, nose dive when braking, uneven front tyre wear and oil leaking from the body. On a heavily laden Defender or Range Rover Classic, a tired front damper usually lets the front pitch badly. Replace front dampers as a pair.
