Frequently asked questions

What is the bow shackle used for?
The bow shackle connects recovery straps, ropes and winch lines to a rated recovery point during a vehicle recovery. Its bow shape lets lines pull from different angles, and the screw-in 22mm pin locks the load in. It's rated to 4.75 tonnes.
How strong is this shackle?
This bow shackle carries a 4.75 tonne rated load through a 22mm threaded pin. Match the shackle rating to your strap and recovery point so the shackle is never the weak link. Use it with a rated recovery point, not a tow ball or a standard tie-down eye.
Should the pin be done up tight?
The pin should be wound fully in by hand, then nudged back slightly so it won't seize once it takes a load. Over-tightening with a bar can lock the pin solid after a heavy pull. It's worth checking the pin is captive before every recovery.
