The PQH500100 idler pulley guides the poly-V auxiliary drive belt around the ancillary layout on the 2.4 litre Duratorq-TDCi and 2.2 litre TDCi Puma diesel engines in the Defender. It runs on a sealed bearing and keeps the belt routing and wrap angle stable across the driven components.
What are the signs an idler pulley needs replacing?
Signs an idler pulley needs replacing include a rumbling or grinding noise from the front of the engine, a squeal on start-up, or visible wobble and roughness when the belt is off and the pulley is spun by hand. The sealed bearing wears with age. A seized pulley can shred the auxiliary belt.
