Frequently asked questions

What's included in the STC1562 head gasket set?
The STC1562 is a decarbonising set for the 2.5L 4-cylinder naturally aspirated diesel engine, built around the cylinder head gasket for a full head-off service. It covers the gaskets needed when the head is removed for decoking or valve work.
Which vehicles use the STC1562 head gasket set?
It fits the Defender (1987-2006) with the 2.5L naturally aspirated diesel engine. This is a different engine from the 200Tdi or 300Tdi turbo variants.
When would I need the STC1562 decarbonising set?
You'll need it any time the cylinder head comes off, whether for a decoke, valve grind, or head gasket failure. It's a single-use set, always fit a fresh gasket set when the head is refitted.
What are the signs the STC1562 head gasket has failed?
Typical signs include coolant loss with no visible external leak, white or milky oil on the dipstick, or a rough idle from compression escaping between cylinders. Overheating is often what triggers the failure in the first place.
