What is the STC8650 rear crossmember with extensions?
The STC8650 is the rear chassis crossmember with side extensions for the Land Rover Defender 90 (1983-2006). It forms the rearmost structural section of the chassis, carrying the rear body mounts, towing point and rear suspension loads. The extensions tie it into the chassis rails.
Why replace a Defender 90 rear crossmember?
The rear crossmember is a common replacement on the Defender 90 because the original corrodes where it sits low at the back of the chassis and collects road salt and water. The STC8650 comes with the side extensions, letting you renew the whole corroded section in one part.
Does the STC8650 fit all Defender 90 models?
The STC8650 fits the Land Rover Defender 90 (1983-2006) up to VIN (V)WA159806. It's supplied without anti-roll bar brackets, so if your vehicle has a rear anti-roll bar you'll need to transfer or source those separately. Check your VIN against the cut-off before ordering.
Does fitting the STC8650 crossmember need welding?
Fitting the STC8650 is typically a welding job rather than a bolt-on repair. The old corroded section is cut out and the new crossmember with its extension outriggers welded to the chassis rails, so it's usually a workshop task. It's supplied bare, without anti-roll bar brackets.
