Frequently asked questions

What does the ERC9706 oil pump gear do?
The ERC9706 is the drive gear for the engine oil pump on the Defender, Discovery 1, and Range Rover Classic 2.25 and 2.5 litre petrol and diesel engines. It turns the pump to draw oil from the sump and circulate it under pressure.
Is the ERC9706 the same as the V8 oil pump gear?
No. ERC9706 fits the four-cylinder petrol and diesel engines. The V8 engine uses a different gear, part number 614037, so check your engine type before ordering to avoid getting the wrong version.
Why would the oil pump gear need replacing?
Oil pump gears typically wear at the tooth faces over high mileage, reducing oil pressure and pump efficiency. Replace it if you notice low oil pressure readings or increased wear noise from the pump area.
