Frequently asked questions

What does the ERC9706 oil pump gear do?
The ERC9706 oil pump gear drives the engine oil pump within the lubrication circuit. It turns the pump to draw oil from the sump and push it under pressure through the engine. It's fitted to Land Rover Defender (up to 2016), Discovery 1, and Range Rover Classic with the 2.25L and 2.5L four-cylinder engines.
Where is the oil pump gear located?
The oil pump gear sits in the engine's lubrication system, driving the oil pump from the engine's gear train. On these four-cylinder Land Rover engines it's typically found in the timing area at the front of the block, meshing with the gear that spins the pump.
What happens if the oil pump gear is worn?
A worn oil pump gear can drop oil pressure, making the warning light flicker or stay on and risking serious engine damage. Chipped or worn teeth reduce how much oil the pump moves. On Discovery 1, Range Rover Classic, and Defender engines, low oil pressure is a strong reason to inspect the pump and its gears.
