What does the fuel tank inspection plate seal do?
The MXC1421 seal keeps the fuel tank inspection plate fuel-tight. It sits between the plate and the tank body, sealing the access opening that lets you reach the in-tank fuel pump and sender unit without dropping the whole tank out of the vehicle.
Where is the fuel tank inspection plate located?
The inspection plate sits in the top face of the fuel tank, usually reached through an access panel in the load floor. Removing the plate gives access to the fuel pump and fuel level sender, which is the normal route for pump and sender work on these models.
Should this seal be replaced every time the inspection plate comes off?
Yes, replace it. Seals of this type typically take a set once compressed and rarely reseal properly on refitting. Given it's the only thing between the tank contents and the cabin floor, it isn't a part worth reusing to save a few euros.
