What is the E276620 con rod bearing set used for?

The E276620 is a complete set of connecting rod, or big-end, bearing shells for the 2.7L Lion V6 turbo diesel used in the Discovery 3, Discovery 4, Range Rover Sport, and Jaguar applications. It carries the rotating load between the rod and crankshaft.

Is this set standard size or does it need machining?

This set is supplied in standard size for crankshafts with unmachined journals. If your crankshaft has been reground undersize, this standard set isn't the correct fit; an undersize set would be needed instead.

Do I need the main bearing set as well?

Only if the main bearings also need replacing. The E276620 covers the con rod bearings specifically; the companion main bearing set is a separate part, E276623, sold on its own.

Why do con rod bearings need replacing?
