Frequently asked questions

What does the fuel pressure regulator do?
It holds fuel in the common rail at the pressure the engine management asks for, bleeding surplus fuel back to the tank. When it fails, rail pressure wanders, and that shows as hard starting, a rough idle, poor power or the engine cutting out.
Which engines does it fit?
The 2.0 litre TD4 diesel in the Freelander 1 and the 3.0 litre BMW diesel in the Range Rover L322. Both use BMW diesel units, which is why the same regulator covers two very different vehicles. Check your engine rather than going by model.
What should I know before fitting it?
Work on a cold engine and relieve the fuel pressure first. Diesel fuel systems run at high pressure, so this is a job to approach carefully or leave to a workshop. Replace any sealing ring supplied with the part rather than reusing the old one.
