De pakking dicht het differentieelhuis af tegen de asbehuizing bij de centrale flens. Bij Rover-type assen is het differentieelhuis een zelfstandige eenheid die in het midden van de asbehuizing wordt geschroefd; deze pakking handhaaft de oliekeerring bij die verbinding en moet worden vervangen telkens wanneer het huis wordt verwijderd voor inspectie of revisie.

Bij Defender-modellen is deze pakking alleen van toepassing op de vooras. De Salisbury achteras gebruikt een andere pakking.

What does the 7316 Differential Carrier Gasket seal?

7316 seals the differential carrier housing against the axle casing at the central carrier flange on Rover-type axles. The differential carrier is a self-contained unit bolted into the centre of the axle casing. This gasket maintains the oil seal at that joint and must be replaced whenever the carrier is removed.

Does 7316 fit both axles on a Defender?

No. On the Defender up to 2016, 7316 fits the front axle only on Rover-type (Land Rover type) axles to VIN KA930455. The Defender Salisbury rear axle uses a different gasket. On Series, Discovery 1, Discovery 2, and Range Rover Classic, it covers both front and rear differentials.

When should the 7316 gasket be replaced?

Replace it whenever the differential carrier is withdrawn for inspection or overhaul, or when you see oil leaking from the centre of the axle casing at the carrier flange. The cross-reference is BR 0522.
