Keerring voor de stuurpenbehuizing op de vooras, afdichtend tegen het gepolijste oppervlak van de fuseekogel.

De afdichting zit in de achterzijde van de fuseebehuizing en loopt tegen de chromen fuseekogel, waardoor olie in de fusee- en homokinetische koppelingskamer wordt gehouden en water, vuil en straatvuil worden buitengesloten. Eén afdichting wordt op elke fuseebehuizing gemonteerd.

Normaal gesproken wordt deze vernieuwd tijdens een revisie van de fuseebehuizing, samen met de fuseekogel, fuseebehuizingolie en voegsmeermiddel.

The RTC3528R is a swivel housing oil seal for the front axle of Land Rover Series 1, 2, 2A, 3 and Defender. It seats in the rear face of the swivel housing and runs against the chrome swivel ball, holding the oil inside the swivel and CV joint chamber while keeping out water and grit.

How many swivel seals are needed and what is renewed with them?

One swivel seal is fitted per swivel housing, so a pair is needed to do both sides of the front axle. It's typically renewed during a swivel overhaul along with the swivel ball and fresh housing oil, since a worn ball or old seal will quickly leak again once the axle is back in service.

What are the signs the swivel seal needs replacing?

A failed swivel seal usually shows as oil weeping from the back of the swivel housing, often with oil tracking onto the brake backplate. On these Land Rovers a leaking swivel seal lets the housing lubricant escape and water reach the CV joint, so it's renewed whenever the swivel is serviced.
