Frequently asked questions

What is the Drive Member Joint Washer and where is it fitted?
This gasket seals the mating face between the drive member flange and the outer hub on Land Rover Series solid axles, preventing lubricant leakage at the drive flange-to-hub joint.
How many drive member joint washers are needed for a hub service?
One washer per hub. On Series I, this washer applies to the front hub only. On Series II, IIA and III, it's used on both front and rear hubs, so a complete axle service requires two per axle.
Should the drive member joint washer be replaced during every hub overhaul?
Yes. Replace with a new washer whenever the drive member is removed. Reusing a compressed or deformed gasket risks lubricant leakage at the flange joint, which can contaminate the brake assembly on the same axle.
