De verdelerkap past over het verdelerhuis en stuurt de hoogspanningsuitgang van de bobine naar elke bougiekabel in de juiste ontstekingsvolgorde. De kap zit op de verdeler en wordt vastgehouden door veerklemmen; de interne klemmen zijn uitgelijnd met de roterende rotorarm, die de lading beurtelings naar elke klem overbrengt.
