What is the RTC1115 bleed screw used for?
The RTC1115 bleed screw lets trapped air and old fluid escape from the brake circuit during bleeding. It threads into a brake caliper or wheel cylinder, and you crack it open with a bleed spanner while the pedal's pumped, then nip it up once clean fluid runs through. Without a working one you can't get a firm pedal.
How many bleed screws do I need for a brake bleed?
Typically one bleed screw sits at each caliper or wheel cylinder, so a full four-corner bleed usually involves up to four points. You don't always replace all of them, most mechanics only swap a screw that's corroded, seized or rounded. Fitting a fresh RTC1115 avoids fighting a stuck nipple mid-job.
Why do brake bleed screws seize and need replacing?
Brake bleed screws corrode where they sit exposed on the caliper, and the small hex rounds off when you try to free a stuck one. A seized or leaking screw stops you bleeding cleanly and can draw air back into the system. A new RTC1115 gives you a fresh sealing taper and a solid hex to grip.
